I did once find on a client's 1400 the Epson Status Monitor (had an error that later cleared once fresh cartridges inserted) showed cartridges as being full or at least with ink inside - when the cartridges were removed, it was seen there was in fact little or no ink inside the errant colours. Not sure if the OP did exactly what I recommended, as only gave info on other ideas - and the method I described in detail is certainly not destructive in any way.
